The Mercer Shaw Library was established in the late 1800's. After the Mercer Elementary School was consolidated into the Mill Stream Elementary School in Norridgewock in 2008, the building became the vibrant Mercer Community Center. Two years later, the public library was moved from its original Main Street location (pictured above left) into one of the classrooms of the former school (pictured above right). In addition to the public library, The Mercer Community Center houses the Town Office, a local food pantry, and serves as a polling location for the town of Mercer. The gymnasium, stage, solarium, kitchen and other former classrooms are available for a variety of events. Events such as fitness/wellness and craft classes, town meetings, public suppers, performances, canine obedience training, craft fairs and flea markets occur on an ongoing or intermittent basis. The playground and ball field are still used by local families, and several indoor/outdoor festivities take place there throughout the year.
